Gourock to Dunoon

Whilst Gourock to Dunoon doesn't really qualify as a Hebridean journey, I've included it as it was a Calmac car ferry route until June 2011. Just over a month before the end of the service, and its replacement by a greatly improved passenger only service, I took the opportunity for a sailing to Dunoon and back aboard the last of the Clyde streakers, the 'Saturn'.

Loading cars over the stern ramp at Gourock....

......but by side ramp at Dunoon.

The 'Saturn' pulls away from the ramp at Gourock...

......and heads out into the Firth of Clyde.

In the distance one of the orange vehicle ferries of Western Ferries, that now provide the only vehicle ferry service to the Cowal peninsular.

Looking north towards the Holy Loch to the left beyond the ferry and to the right of it the Gairloch.

The isle of Aran is just visible through the rain showers down the Firth of Clyde.

Gourock pier with...

.......the old Caledonian Railway steamer terminal.

'Saturn' hurries back to the mainland.

Looking across the Firth of Clyde with Gourock lit up by sunshine and the River Clyde to the left.

'Saturn' returns and hour later.

Sunset over Calmac on the Gourock to Dunoon ferry route. Argyll Ferries took over a month later.
