(from Kandersteg to Leukerbad)
An account of part of this walk can also be found on the Leukerbad pages
We took the bus to Eggeschwand and then the cable car up to SunnbŁel at 1934m. It was a lovely clear sunny day and the views were magnificent. From SunnbŁel the depth of the Gasternertal is really evident.
The path is broad and easily graded the entire way to the Gemmipass. The path undulates through pasture to the cantonal boundary between Berne and Valais, with its stone marker at 1901m before beginning the slightly steeper climb through more rocky terrain and past the end of the Schmarxgletscher and Rinderhorn to reach the Hotel Schwarenbach 1h and 10m from SunnbŁel.

The path climbs steadily to the Daubensee at 2220m and then onto to the Gemmipass at 23246m where the cable car down to Leukerbad was used. The views of the 4000m mountains of the Valais were even clearer than on our previous visit in 2001.
