MIDLAND RAILWAY PHOTOGRAPHS

This interesting photo shows the evening Bradford to Morecambe "Residential" train near Bentham headed by 2P No 448 of Lancaster Green Ayre shed. The third coach is the special saloon used on this service. The direction of the shadows supports my belief that this is the evening service; the sun is directly on the loco's smokebox. I suspect it is taken in summer 1923.

A Lancaster Green Ayre 0-4-4T N0 2618 heads east through Bentham on a local train.

Another train at Bentham; this time it's Leeds Holbeck's Kirtley 0-6-0 No 596 at the head of a train of what look like empty MR coal wagons. The photo is believed to be have been taken in 1903.

Photos of freight trains on the Settle and Cralisle are rare. This is one of my favourites and shows No 3002 of Carlisle Kingmoor shed heading downhill from Blea Moor towards Ribblehead viaduct. The photo is believed to have been taken in 1910.
