Brünig Hasliberg to Hohfluh
This walk starts at Brünig Hasliberg station and is called the Panoramaweg, The walk links the station with the Meiringen to Reuti cable car line. In summer the walk is expected to take about three hours even in winter. However, in winter conditions with heavy snow and a path that hasn't been cleared properly this can obviously take much longer.
It took us two hours to walk the section as far as the half way point at Hohfluh roughly twice as long as in summer.

The train from Interlaken to Luzern brought us to Brünig Hasliberg (1001 m)

The rotary snowplough was in action as there had been significant snow overnight.

The path heads along the road to Hohfluh and Reuti for a short distance...

....before heading off up hill into the woods. At this stage there were a few footprints in the snow but as it was snowing again these soon filled up and ....

....we had to walk following the pink guides painted on the trees and occasional marker posts.

The path climbs to a summit at about 1098m with some quite steep sections in places.

Head down and onwards and upwards!!

Near the summit is this eratic - a large boulder carried by the Aare glacier 10,000 years ago in the ice Age.

The depth of snow in the forest is obvious from this path signpost - nearly two metres I suspect.

The path starts to fall downhill...

....to reach the road and a bus stop at Bodemli.

This is the road looking towards Hohfluh and Reuti. Given the depth of snow we thought about walking along the road but given the poor light decided it would be safer to stick to the path.

There was a short section of knee deep snow to get through down this depression..

.....befor easier walking..

.....through the forest.

The path now drops down to about 940m ....

.....passing what looks like another eratic.

A country lane is followed ...

.....with snow falling heavily.

....before the climb up to Hohfluh Unterdorf.

The path to Reuti carries straight on here but we took the fork up to Hohfluh,,,

......to find lunch in the Hotel Bären. The bus back to Brünig Hasliberg stops right outside the door. The bus was ten minutes late...(almost unbelievable) but the six minute train connection was kept with the train staff waiting by the doors.
