SEDRUN TO DISENTIS
The day started with thick mist in Andermatt with visibility less than 100m but the forecast for the Disentis area was better and so it proved – our only really nice sunny day in two weeks in summer 2006.
Leaving Sedrun
We took the train to Sedrun (1441)and walked a section of the "Senda Sursilvana" path to Disentis. This path actually starts at Oberapl Pass. The route leaves the station and goes down into the village near the church and then climbs up to the viaduct over the Bugnei-Tobel. This bridge has a footpath running across it with a steel mesh through which can be seen the valley floor a hundred feet or so below!

A pleasant walk through the woods
The path then continues by the side of the railway for several kilometres along a broad forest path and then through rough pasture to the village of Mompé Tujetsch (1390m).

It then starts the descent to Disentis across meadows to Segnes. Along this stretch the Glacier da Medel dominates the skyline to the south with the Piz Uffiern (3131m) being the highest. This is a surprisingly low peak to have a large glacier on it .
The
marked way runs first along a paved road towards Disentis and then
branches off down to the Bachtobel stream before reaching the outskirts of
Disentis. To reach the station we had then to follow the main road into the
town. A visit to the Benedistine monastery church with its vast amount of gold
painted wood and somewhat gruesome ceiling frescos ended the day.
