Day 12 Saturday 19.8.00

This was to be a relatively short and easy day, almost a rest day in comparison to some days. It was sunny and quite hot. We left Boden and walked up the lanes and through woods to the Berglager cable car station.

Albristhorn from Gilbach

Above Gilbach the footpath was closed as a ropeway was being used to transport timber down from the forests. We had to use a higher route along lanes than the APR; this was one time when we were glad to have brought maps with us. The path rejoined our main route above Geils and then it was just a few minutes walk up to the Hahnenmoospass (1956m).

The Wildstrubel from Hahnemoos

There were excellent views, of course, and we could see both the way we had come and the next day’s walk beyond Lenk. After soup in the restaurant we rejoined the path, which drops steadily down to Lenk.

Looking into the valley where Lenk lies from just below the pass.

In the evening we could see the icefalls from the glacier on the Wildstrubel from the centre of Lenk. Outside the tourist office stood  the purple Milka cow advertising Lenk’s main product- chocolate.
