ENGELBERG TO GRINDELWALD
Day
6 Friday 11.8.00
Trubsee
We
took the cable car up to Trubsee. This is a much grander affair than many and
eventually ends near the summit of the Titlis. From the cable car station we
walked past the lake with incredible reflections of the mountains. The eye is
drawn all the time to the Titlis, with much more snow on than in many summer
photos. The path to the Jochpass (2207m) has clearly been rerouted, as it
no longer follows the cable car to the summit due to erosion. At first we were a
little concerned about this but a farmer assured us we were on the correct path.
View from Jochpass with Engstlensee
The pass itself is a little disappointing as it is a jumble of hotels and cable car stations. The path falls gently towards Engstlenalp passing the absolutely still waters of the Engstlensee and a large number of day walkers, something we hadn’t seen a lot of before.
Looking east to Jochpass from Baumgarten
After a drink at the hotel we started on the long
path that runs high above the valley on terraces and runs all the way to Reuti,
through meadows, woods and mountainside. From Reuti we took the large cable car
down into Meiringen and the English and American tourists.
