We set off from Sargans at 10.30 after travelling from Zurich and walked along road through Mels and then uphill on a mixture of lanes and paths towards Schwendi. After Schwendi we left the road in favour of paths quite high above the valley until we rejoined road just outside Weisstannen. Hotel Gemse was excellent with an ensuite room and private sitting room. The weather was dry with sunny spells but heavy cloud down to 1500m.
